Prescott College Southern
Library Resources Facility
Prescott College Southern is led by a small dynamic team. We have worked together since 2007 and it is amazing to see what has been accomplished on a shoestring budget. Christine and Michelle are inspirational to work with and Ron made the whole project run smoothly and apparently effortlessly.
This was to be a cutting edge Library Resource Centre in the middle of a site, preparing for expansion from the R-7 primary school to the R- 12 College. This is a signature building, located at the entry to the school in front of the main car park. The beautiful soaring gum trees were a bonus, but also determined the foot print, which steps in and out around the critical root zone. The use of trusses provided the opportunity for high level windows in the roof and between the trusses. The lined trusses form feature light shafts, which provide natural light and the opportunity for colour to the middle of the building. They also articulate the large expanse of ceiling and provide passive ventilation using the automated louvre windows. Coloured multi-wall polycarbonate sheeting provided a thermally effective glazing barrier to the west facing windows and interesting colour effects inside and out. This is a creative and yet peaceful space for private study, small group work and class time in an almost rural setting within the suburbs.
