Seeking an economical solution to a requirement for Middle School students to have their own technology and design spaces, this development is an extension of existing classroom block. The facility provides a large technology workshop /maker space with hard wearing plywood and metal linings, sophisticated acoustic treatments to walls and ceilings, a polished concrete floor. The Technology Space is adjacent and visually connected to the Design Laboratory and a large storage space, a Staff Office and a General Purpose Learning area. Immediately outside is a large covered courtyard for breakout; a space to collaborate and try out the products of the design and construction.
Thanks to the School for entrusting us with the design of another important project on their site. The School prepared the brief well and collaborated tirelessly to ensure the design matched their evolving pedagogy for the middle years students.
Meinhardt Group Engineers assisted with the Structural and Civil design.
Lucid Consulting Engineers worked with us again on the Services Engineering requirements with a complex mix of evaporative and refrigerated air conditioning and extraction, linked with electronically controlled windows.
Mykra managed the construction with full supervision and contributed to an excellent finished result.
Thanks to all involved.
